Ways to Get Rid of Dust Mites with All Your Might

Dust mites can come from various sources and can be difficult to eradicate completely. The increase of dust mites can indicate that it is time to change the air conditioner filter, furnace filter or the vacuum cleaner bag. Doorways and windows that are not properly sealed and leaks in the ductwork may also lead to the problem.

Ways to Get Rid of Dust Mites

  • Replace the air filters in your air conditioner and furnace once a month during heavy usage.
  • Check the ductwork for leaks or tears and repair the insulation where required.
  • Clothes dryers should be ventilated directly to the outside. Check the venting pipe for leaks and make sure that it is firmly attached to the close dryer. The vent pipe should be properly cleaned annually to assure effective performance.
  • Keep doors and windows closed on windy days and clean your shoes before entering the house to limit the amount of debris and dust that is brought into the house.
  • Wash bedding and dry it in a clothes dryer to kill any dust mites.
  • Use a vacuum cleaner with a high-efficiency particle air filter for improved efficiency.
  • Reduce the humidity levels in your home through the use of a dehumidifier.
  • Brush the coats of your pets daily while outside the home.
  • Wash the bedding of your pets regularly and dry it in a clothes dryer to destroy dust mites.

Dust mites are small arachnids; they love warm and humid environments and feed on skin cells. Dust mites can cause allergic reactions and the bedding used in your beds offers a prime breeding ground. Pets can contaminate bedding, floors and furniture with dust mites and they need to be brushed daily to remove excess pet dander.
